Ipod touch - New Things In Store For Users?

In this article we're going to take a look at the differences between the 09 Ipod Touch and the 08' model that's still in circulation. By no means can we "touch" on every single feature and difference between the two in on page, but below you will find some interesting observations:

While both the 32 and 64GB versions look similar to their predecessor, the software inside has more available storage--which makes the money spent on the product more worthwhile in our opinion; the 64GB is very "robust" for the price it goes for! The potential of the product will soon be determined...a "paid" firmware update scheduled to be released next year. The only disappointment was the absence of a camera--apparently Apple put the axe on adding one to the Ipod touch due to technical issues.

While we really felt nothing had changed from 08' to 09' as far as the look, or functionality of the Ipod Touch, the APPS are where it's at! Although there wasn't a camera included, they more than remedied this with a cheap, endless amount of games and functional APPS. Of course, the Ipod Touch is bigger than the "classic", "shuffle", or "nano"--but none of them have anything on the availability of options available on the Ipod Touch.

Changes: Looks & Accessories

Other than some minor engraving changes on the back of the unit, we could find no discernible changes to the exterior of the Touch.

The screen resolution on the new Ipod Touch is slightly better. We can't say it's 100% improved, however the color balance looks improved and the screen can be held at a variety of different angles without the screen pixels being obscured, or hard to read. The screen appears brighter, with improved color clarity. We actually tested the movie "Avatar" on our test model and found the Touch was quite up to the challenge. For a movie with such diverse color needs, the Ipod Touch stood up quite well and was impressive to say the least. Tip: Buy yourself a stand if you're going to watch movies--holding the device can get tiresome for longer viewing.

The new Ipod touch that we tested came with Apple's signature earphones with remote and microphone. The previous model required you to buy these separately. The earphone are infinitely more comfortable, sliding into a users ears easily, with a smooth comforting texture to them. Combining the headphones/microphone combo with the new software makes for many options now, and with the future firmware updates.

Hardware Changes

Apple has boasted 50% quicker performance and uncompromising graphics ability with their 800MHz Open GL ES 2.0 (would we expect less from Apple?) The Ipod touch is somewhat clouded in secrecy as of now. The company has left us hanging, so to speak...when the new firmware update is released, we will see what unspoken abilities the new unit has in store for us!
